Helping your child to conqueur maths and physics

Maths & Physics Success

Ultimately there are benefits to doing well and getting good grades.  If the pupil is going to study further then good grades will help in the competition for places; even within school it will demonstrate the pupil’s knowledge and make progress in the school easier.  Outside school there is competition for jobs and good grades will be a big help there too.  Good grades also help the self-confidence of a person which will show up in interviews and in progression and promotion at work.

The Problem

There is a downside to getting behind in subjects like Physics and Maths as the teaching of a new topic may well depend on the understanding of previous topics.

If previous topics are not fully understood then the learning of new topics will become more difficult.  This will only serve to compound the existing problem and students are more inclined to fall even further behind and have their confidence undermined.

The Benefits of One-to-One Tutoring

One-to-one tutoring allows for the most effective communication between the tutor and the student.  This allows gaps to be identified and explored resulting in the most effective learning for the student.  It also enables the tutor to tailor the learning to the individual needs of the student.

The Benefits of Tutoring

I believe that tutoring is at its most successful when there is a good relationship between pupil and tutor and that the sessions are worthwhile and enjoyable.

It takes time to find the missing pieces of the jigsaw and to put them together. I help to fill in the gaps in the student’s knowledge and understanding.

My aim is to join the dots between the student’s existing knowledge and the areas of subject which are missing.

This requires patience and skill on the part of the tutor and commitment from both student and tutor.

I aim to build confidence by teaching with enthusiasm and understanding.

My teaching experience

I have taught Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science in both large and small secondary schools.  Over the years, I have taught students with a wide range of abilities.  I became the Head of the Science Department in a private school.

I believe that the subject should be taught in a way that is both relevant and enjoyable for the pupil.  For example, in a science subject, I teach as much practical work as possible bringing the topic to life and making it easier to learn and remember.
